Gayatri Projects Ltd., is the collaborative partner in the privatised Nellore Bypass highway project in India. The relationship has been strengthened with the entry into a joint-venture between Gayatri and IJM, another strategic affiliate of Sadec Group in 1996 to participate in construction contracts in India.
Gayatri is the flagship company of the Gayatri group. Formed some 34 years ago, Gayatri has established a pre-eminent position in the construction industry in India with projects on hand to the tune of Rs. 4000 million. The company has already completed several projects of national importance like Visakhapatnam Steel Project, National Thermal Power Corporation, National Aluminium Company. South Eastern Railways, Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers. Today, it is associated with clients like Jindal Vijaynagar Steel, International Airports Authority (Calicut Airport), Kakinada Port Project, Upper Krishna Project Karnataka, Sardar Sarovar Project, Maharashtra Govt., Orissa Irrigation Department. Gayatri participates in all fields of Civil Constructions like harbours, airports, irrigation, industrial highways, commercial buildings and site development activities.
In addition to the construction arm, the Gayatri Group is also involved in the production of Sorbitol by a single-steam plant in technical collaboration with Lurgi, Germany. For this it promoted a new company, Starchem Industries Ltd. The Group has also made forays in the field of financial services and has promoted Gayatri Capital Ltd, which is a member of the National Stock Exchange and OTCEI in India. The promoters are high net worth individuals, who have, over the years, built up personal assets such as prime commercial properties worth Rs1700 million, in all large cities like Hyderabad, Madras and Vizag.
Currently, the Group is promoting Gayatri Tissue and Papers Ltd - a large sized printing and writing paper project with an investment of Rs10,400 million for which the promoters have decided to a part of these assets as equity. For this project, Sugar Cane Bagasse would be used as the primary raw material. In order to have an assured supply of raw material the Group is also setting up a sugar mill - NCS Gayatri Sugars Ltd with a crushing capacity or 2500 tonnes per day.
